A Bit of Prejudice: Girl Gaming

Girl gaming prejudice is something that I have had to experience for most of the past 8 years, or longer. My boyfriend says it most eloquently as "If a girl says she's a gamer in-game, guys will either suck up to her, or shun her. A girl-gamer to an 18 year old boy is like an instant aphrodisiac." My question is: Why?



The constant argument is that girl-gamers will only play "girl-games" such as MMORPGs, and Final Fantasy. Mind you, neither of these are bad in the eyes of guy-gamers, but they are still considered girl-games. A girl who plays Ragnarok is cute, a girl who plays Halo is frightening; or atleast this is what it seems like.

Nintendo recently released a website called Girl Gamer which is already blowing up the gaming blogs worldwide. It seems the only games that girls can play are Cooking Mama, Wii Play, and Wii Fit.

Guys! Get off your high horse! We play games, too! And no, they don't have to be pink, and yes, we will kick your ass.
